Red Hawk Ridge
About
Located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, the Red Hawk Ridge golf course offers beautiful panoramic views of Colorado's Front Range and Castle Rock. The rolling terrain causes dramatic elevation changes for a fun, challenging game. It was designed with a traditional links-style layout with large, undulating greens and generous, subtly rolling fairways. The course has many risk/reward opportunities as well as heavy mounding and strategically placed bunkers. With five sets of tees, Red Hawk Ridge accommodates any skill level of golfer. The golf course's landscape is resplendent with lush native grasses and lakes, and several types of wildlife have even made the course their home.

A good course with a unique layout.
This course features one extra PAR-3 and one extra PAR-5 on the back nine. One of the back 9 PAR-3s has a high tee with the green below. It is a challenge to pick the correct iron because of the elevation change. The views on the back-9 are breath taking. The fairways are very green and in good conditions, greens are rough and have some bare spots on the front-9. Back-9 greens are better.
Early Season Challenge
We played RHR on a Cool, Windy Saturday in March… The staff was very accommodating. We were the first group out and while there was still some snowy remnants’ around the course, it was in good shape. The challenges of playing RHR were, as always, a test to our ability to play (target golf, grip it & rip it and course management). This is a course which everyone in the DMA should play at least once. We will be back, often.
Great Mountain views, nice layout
Fun course to play.... Well maintained and friendly personnel.
Great layout, super people, greens need attention
I had not played this course for a couple of years but remembered what a scenic layout it was with great views. The staff was super cordial and the layout was as good as I remembered. Unfortunately, though, with most of the area greens in great shape, these greens badly need attention. They were about half good grass and half some kind of foreign grass, making them irregular, somewhat slow, and bumpy. The foreign grass looks like it is choking out the good grass, and obviously the close mowing is not getting rid of it. The weedy grass seemed to grow faster than the good grass as the day went on, even appearing to begin to flower out a little at the tips. I have no idea how you could kill the weedy grass and not the good grass, but damage control is badly needed before they lose the greens entirely. I feel sorry I can't make a better review but the condition of the greens detracts seriously from what should be a great experience.
Played the course 2 weeks ago no cart path only what changed???
No beverage cart on weekend .Go to bar to get ice for water we brought with us because there is no water on course bartender gives us 1 inch of ice in cooler with tip. Staff dismissive about handicap issue .
I want to play it again!
From the first hole, you are presented beautiful views of Castle Rock below, and mountains of the Front Range to the west.
Most holes are fully visible from the tee box, but don't think it will be easy, because large elevation changes cause some extra thinking after looking at the yardage book.
The practice green is as fast as a new pool table, but probably because of the time of year, the course greens are a bit slower. This probably a good thing because I didn't find a level putt anywhere on the course. Also because of the time of year, the greens are mottled, giving you plenty of "features" for aiming points. These features aren't distinctive enough to distract from your birdy putts, but they are noticeable.
If you're not familiar with the course, you'll want to buy a reasonably priced yardage book in the very comfortable club house. Trust the book, but adjust for elevation!
The mid November days are pretty short in Colorado, so book a fairly early tee time to finish before the sun goes down and the temperatures start falling.
Overall, this course is easily worth driving a hundred miles, or extending a trip in the area for a couple days to play.
fun course
Tends to be pricy. Watch for deals on-line etc. Always in good condition. Typical Jim Engh design. When you've finished, it was a good day, you're not beaten down. Very enjoyable.
This course is very scenic.
One of the best i have played in Colorado. Great condition and superb facilities.
Beautiful course and location
No trees, wide open fairways, beautiful location. several elevated tees which are really cool. Will definitely play here again.
One of the best Denver courses to play. Jm Engh really makes playing his designs fun as well as challenging
Red Hawk was immaculate when I last played. The tee boxes were immaculate, greens rolled true, and fairways were as nice if not nicer than high end private courses.
Course Superintendent is excellent!
This course is in great shape and very challenging. Played from the gold tees. Scenic views are awesome. Definitly a target golf type of course.
Nice course
This course is the bomb. I have played here since 2003 and it just gets better.
Quite, nice layout and great finishing hole. Downside is the practice area.
great views and the greenest course out there
this course it in great shape i would love to see this course have gps. the staff is great. i would rank this golf course in my top 3 for sure and they are battling for the top spot over bear dance and fossil trace. the price is ok 79 prime time and 55 in the afternoons
Too expensive for average course
Too expensive for average course. Inconvenient driving range and small practice green. Also needs chipping green. Run like typical government operation rather than appreciating the business. Lots of better golf for the money at other courses.
A Castle Rock treasure.
A great public course. Fits the terrain of the area. The practice green is rather small and there is no real area to practice the short game.
I love this course, especially in the middle of the day with a Golfnow discount!
This is a fun course, well maintained, up and down, scenic and all the times I have played it starting about 2ish, we have zoomed around the place. Very fun place and try it out
Jim Engh designs a "fun" golf experience
This is the second Jim Engh designed course we've played, and Red Hawk Ridge didn't disappoint! His course designs truly provide a refreshing golf experience as they appear intimidating, but are golfer friendly in terms of where the ball winds up in play during the round--assuming one hits a reasonably good shot. We truly enjoyed our golfing experience at Red Hawk Ridge.
