Gladstan Golf Course
About
Gladstan Golf Course is located in Payson which is about about 1 hour and 15 minutes south of Salt Lake City. It is built in the foothills of the Wasatch Mountain and offers a great taste of Utah mountain golfing.
Since the course is just over an hour away from Salt Lake City, it is not as busy as other mountain courses in Northern Utah. This keeps Gladstan one of the best kept secrets in the state. But, as more people play find out about it and the metropolitan area expands Gladstan is becoming more and more popular.
The opening holes numbers 1 to 6 on the front nine and the closing holes numbers 16 to 18 on the back are more traditional in design as they were built on terrain that is fairly flat. The main hazards on these holes are two large ponds and out of bounds areas.
In contrast, the stretch of holes from number 7 to 15 are cut out of the natural vegetation and uneven land. These holes cross hillsides, wander through canyons, shoot down steep slopes and cut through forests. Elevated tees, ravines and waste areas all come into play.
Numbers 7 and 8 are short target-style holes that require accuracy. Number 7 is a very short 329 yard par 4 that can easily produce a bogie or worse. A tee shot that is too far left or long will be lost or unplayable. Even a bad second shot to the elevated green is dangerous because of the surrounding vegetation.
A precise tee shot is also required on the short par 3 number 8 as the small green literally has thick waste areas guarding every side. Landing short of the green and rolling on is the only way to be safe.
Don't get too relaxed at the turn as hole number 10 requires a forced carry down a steep hillside and over a strand of tall trees. Course knowledge, course maintenance and shot execution are all required to setup a good approach shot to the green.
Because of the its intimidating tee shot, the signature hole is number 12. At less than 300 yards the par 4 would never get an ounce of respect if it wasn't for the deep ravine between the tee box and the fairway. The carry is only about 150 yards from the back tee but when it's your turn to hit it looks like 300 yards.
Because of the distance between green and tee on several holes, a cart is recommended for all but the best in shape. The forced carries required on the back make the front nine better for beginning golfers. The course is in Utah County which is dry on Sundays so bring your own beer.
Gladstan is very interesting and fun to play and offers challenges that can be overcome with accuracy and bravery. For the price Gladstan is an exceptional value for your golfing dollar.

Had a great time. Pace was good, course was not crowded, weather was perfect. Really had a good time. Only issue is that the on-line booking is not flexible with regarding to who is taking a cart and who is walking. All green fees were based on renting a cart.

Beautiful setting for a golf course.Good elevation changes.Excellent greens and fairways
Fun course
I have played this course in the past and never tire of it. They do a great job keeping the fairways cut and the greens are well maintained as well. Beautiful setting for a golf course. The staff were very helpful too.
Great course
I always love playing here it’s a beautiful course and the staff are amazing. This round was troubling because of how slow the pace of play was and there was no course Marshall to keep things in check.
Another great round
Gladstan GC is a favorite course for our golf group that we would definitely play more often if it were closer to SLC; the clubhouse staff is always welcoming to us as GolfPass/GolfNow members which isn’t always the case at a few courses; the courses was in good condition considering the drought that we experienced, and there were a few areas that were affected but still playable, including the greens; the only real issue was pace of play which resulted in a very slow round with five groups congregating on home #4 and waiting often on the tee boxes and fairways on both the front and the back nines; however, we enjoyed the round and really enjoy the layout and challenges; we will return!
Another great round
I can’t say enough positives about my round at Gladstan GC; when I arrived, I was welcomed with the quickest check-in I have ever experienced, and I was invited to the first tee as soon as I was ready; I tees off and caught a twosome on number six, and they let me play through; I also caught up to a twosome on #12 that also let me play through; the course was in fantastic shape, and as always, it was fun, quick, and challenging; I recommend this course to others looking for a diverse course layout that is fun and challenging; I look forward to my next round at Gladstan!
Great fall round
Gladstan GC is a favorite of my group that we look forward to playing sever times a year; this round was as good as could have been expected; the staff greeted us and offered the opportunity for us to get out a few minutes early which we accepted; the course was in very good shape and played well; the pace of play was better than expected for a Saturday late morning round; I recommend this course to intermediate and higher level golfers as the back nine is challenging with tight fairways and lots of brush and trees that can steal golf balls.
beautiful mountain course
I love playing this course. Fall leaves changing color, Greens were a bit fast, but in great condition.
SD- From SLC
Excellent course, Frenzy and accommodating staff, course in great shape, beautiful views of Utah county, wildlife, and the Wasatch front. Great deal for the money.. always a pleasure to play here, never gets old!!
Great, patient round
Gladstan GC is a favorite of our group that we enjoy playing multiple times each year; the course was in very good condition which was reflected by the number of groups out; we were paired with another twosome that consisted of an experienced beginner and a new player (2nd round) which slowed our group play but fit the overall pace for the day; they only played 9-holes, so we thought we would easily play the back which was halted once we reached the #12 tee box; thereafter it was back to tournament play speed; we were satisfied with the round because it is a great course.
A Beautiful Course
What a day to golf! 2 days ago was 90 degrees and calm. Today it was barely 50 degrees when we started & about 40 when we finished. There was also a stiff breeze from the north. Not ideal conditions, but ... this is an amazingly beautiful setting. A mountain course tucked into a small canyon above Payson, UT. The mountains immediately behind were all snowcapped, and the trees were just turning to autumn colors. With such an unseasonably cold day the course was nearly deserted - we saw a lot more deer & wild turkeys than other golfers. But the fairways were smooth and the greens were quick and true. I’m definitely coming back! But hopefully it’ll be a little warmer next time.
