Gladstan Golf Course
About
Gladstan Golf Course is located in Payson which is about about 1 hour and 15 minutes south of Salt Lake City. It is built in the foothills of the Wasatch Mountain and offers a great taste of Utah mountain golfing.
Since the course is just over an hour away from Salt Lake City, it is not as busy as other mountain courses in Northern Utah. This keeps Gladstan one of the best kept secrets in the state. But, as more people play find out about it and the metropolitan area expands Gladstan is becoming more and more popular.
The opening holes numbers 1 to 6 on the front nine and the closing holes numbers 16 to 18 on the back are more traditional in design as they were built on terrain that is fairly flat. The main hazards on these holes are two large ponds and out of bounds areas.
In contrast, the stretch of holes from number 7 to 15 are cut out of the natural vegetation and uneven land. These holes cross hillsides, wander through canyons, shoot down steep slopes and cut through forests. Elevated tees, ravines and waste areas all come into play.
Numbers 7 and 8 are short target-style holes that require accuracy. Number 7 is a very short 329 yard par 4 that can easily produce a bogie or worse. A tee shot that is too far left or long will be lost or unplayable. Even a bad second shot to the elevated green is dangerous because of the surrounding vegetation.
A precise tee shot is also required on the short par 3 number 8 as the small green literally has thick waste areas guarding every side. Landing short of the green and rolling on is the only way to be safe.
Don't get too relaxed at the turn as hole number 10 requires a forced carry down a steep hillside and over a strand of tall trees. Course knowledge, course maintenance and shot execution are all required to setup a good approach shot to the green.
Because of the its intimidating tee shot, the signature hole is number 12. At less than 300 yards the par 4 would never get an ounce of respect if it wasn't for the deep ravine between the tee box and the fairway. The carry is only about 150 yards from the back tee but when it's your turn to hit it looks like 300 yards.
Because of the distance between green and tee on several holes, a cart is recommended for all but the best in shape. The forced carries required on the back make the front nine better for beginning golfers. The course is in Utah County which is dry on Sundays so bring your own beer.
Gladstan is very interesting and fun to play and offers challenges that can be overcome with accuracy and bravery. For the price Gladstan is an exceptional value for your golfing dollar.

Very low on golf carts and ended up charging us $18 more so that my wife could sit in the cart and watch me golf. They were accommodating but this was the first time they ever charged us for her to just be in the cart.
Mountain Canyon Golf at its best
First time here and this was a blast to find course open just a couple of weeks after the snow they've had here. Actually joke as we drove the course that snow tires may be needed.
Wonderful views. Played with a couple of locals which helped a lot. Course knowledge is a big deal especially on back nine. Cannot wait to play again when its dry and fast :-)
Smooth round
Gladstan GC is a favorite course that I wish was closer to my home, so I usually only play here a few times a year; this round was very enjoyable until I caught up to a single walking and playing two balls in the back nine (which was actually the front nine holes); after he let me play through on hole #4, it was smooth sailing until I caught up to a twosome that was held up by a threesome; the course was in very good shape and played well; it was a typical challenging round with strategic, accurate shots which brings me back; the staff was very friendly and accommodating.
Beautiful Course
One of my favorite courses. Such a beautiful course and setting. You can at least enjoy the views when play is slow.
Another wonderful round
Gladstan GC is always a great experience even when it is busy; the layout alone brings challenges that bring you back, but the variety in holes with risk-reward make it worth the trip; as always, the staff was friendly and welcoming and let us out early; i enjoy every trip to the course.
Another exceptional round
Gladstan GC has become a favorite of mine despite the fact that there are several holes that I cannot seem to defeat; the layout is awesome and provides challenges in a risk-reward outcome; obviously the fall weather affected the attendance which is normally quite high, but unfortunately we were able to get held up from hole #8 through #18; that wasn’t a big issue because I was playing with a friend whom I was introducing him to the course for the first time, so we were content with the slow play, but it did catch up to us on the back nine when we dropped back into the cool shadows on #16 through #18 which brought colder temperatures that affected not only our comfort but also the flight of the ball; however, the round was still quite enjoyable with fantastic greens and fairways and a friendly welcome in the clubhouse; I hope to get out at least one more time before winter at Gladstan because I hope to conquer a few of those that challenge my game.
Gladstan
Prefect Fall day for Golf at Galdstan Golf Course. First time playing this course. An interesting layout with more than a few dogleg holes and with scenic mountain views. Only complaint was pace of play 5 hrs for the round and no improvement even after a another group said they mentioned it to a marshal on the course.
Tale of Two Sides
We were first timers at Gladsyan. The front nine is nice. But, unremarkable. The back nine is awesome good with many great holes. Anyone who has played the course knows this.
One suggestion. Put up signs at the clubhouse that point to Hole #1 and Hole #10. Seems kind of basic. Not everyone is there for their 50th round.
Beautiful course
If you can only do nine be sure to do the back up into the canyon. Such a fun course, it’s in great condition and we flew through our round.
Good shape
For being as dry as it has been, the course is still in good condition!
