Murray Parkway Golf Course

Murray Parkway is located in the heart of the Salt Lake Valley near the junction of I-15 and I-215. It's easy to see from the highway but hard to get to once you exit. The easiest way I know is to exit from I-15 at 7200 S., head west, turn right on 700 W., then left at the light on 6400 S. Current road construction may have closed this route so call the pro shop before heading out.

Given the high slope and rating of the course one would think that scoring would be on the high side. But the the course plays considerably easier than similarly rated/sloped courses in the area. The main reason is the flat and wide open nature of Murray Parkway. With just a few exceptions, most of the holes offer safe bail-out areas that allow you to rip your drives without fear. The one glaring exception to this is the first hole which is a dog leg right around one of the few water hazards that actually comes into play. Given a few years, the course will toughen up once the small trees gain some height.

Hole 9 -- Murray Parkway Golf CourseThe course is generally in very good shape although the greens seem to have a mixture of different grass types growing. The greens tend to be fast.

Two holes that stand out because they are somewhat unique are the 10th and 16th. The 10th is remarkable because it is over 600 yards (blue tees), the 16th is an interesting short par 4 which is a dog-leg around an OB fence and an area of 20 bunkers.  Number 17 is the most difficult hole -- a 200-230 yard par 3 that usually plays into the wind.

A lot of locals hang out at this course and there is a cliquish atmosphere at times. There is a nice driving range (mats) and two chipping/putting greens. Green fees are reasonable and it is very easy to walk.
