TravelGolf.com Staff Report

VAIL, Colo. - The Sonnenalp of Vail Foundation presents the 2nd annual "Scramble Against Cancer & Starlight Shootout" Golf Tournament on July 17, 2000. All proceeds from the event, which raised $67,000 in its first year, will benefit the Vail Valley Medical Center's new Regional Cancer Treatment Center in Edwards, Colo.

Participants will enjoy golf at the award-winning Sonnenalp Golf Club at Singletree, a sumptuous Western-style dinner prepared by the Sonnenalp's culinary staff, dancing and a charity auction.

Scramble Against Cancer & Starlight Shoot-Out Golf Tournament

The tournament will take place at the Sonnenalp Golf Club at Singletree, the site for the 2001 Colorado Golf Open. Designed by Robert Cupp and Jay Morrish, the award-winning course is considered one of the most challenging and beautiful Scottish-links courses in the country.

The "Scramble Against Cancer & Starlight Shoot-Out" begins with a 2 p.m. shotgun start when players will begin vying for incredible prizes - a Mercedes Benz for the first hole-in-one at hole 17 and $50,000 for any hole-in-one at hole 5. The tournament will be followed by a gourmet barbeque featuring whole roasted piglet, grilled salmon, quail and chicken and assorted desserts and after-dinner entertainment includes live music, dancing and a charity auction.

The Starlight Shoot-out, featuring the three lowest score scramble teams, begins at 8:30 p.m. followed by an awards presentation. The entry fee is $300 per player or $1,200 per team. The entry fee includes dinner for the participant's guest. (Dinner only for non-participants is $150.)

The Vail Valley Medical Center's Regional Cancer Treatment Center

The new Regional Cancer Treatment Center will provide a facility for cancer patients in a six county intermountain region that includes the Eagle Valley. The center will provide radiation therapy, chemotherapy and other forms of treatment so that patients no longer have to make the long and tiring trip to Denver or Grand Junction for therapy.

The Sonnenalp of Vail Foundation

The Sonnenalp of Vail Foundation was established in 1997 as a Colorado nonprofit charitable foundation. Its goal is to enhance the quality of life for residents of the greater Eagle Valley community by addressing medical and educational needs that cannot be met by currently existing agencies and charitable organizations.

The deadline for entries is July 3, 2000. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Please call the Sonnenalp of Vail Foundation at 970-479-5702 for more information and entry forms.
