Full price
I played 10 rounds at the Ridge this year and I can only think of a couple of them when the course was in good condition. They charged full price all year but never had traps raked, the greens and fairways were bad most of the year. I usually love this course but this year was very difficult to appreciate it and justify $120 rounds.
Save your money and hopefully they’ll be better next year.
Great course and views
Golfed with my wife . Great course , well maintained , interesting array of challenging holes . Only downer was the surly starter Glen who was rude and condescending when we circled back for a dropped head over ( nobody behind us ) “ not my job to clean up after you “ .
Attentive pro shop staff and bar staff
A wet golfing adventure
I had been looking forward to playing this course for some time. Was able to get a late afternoon tee time and due to that, pace of play was a little slow. Of course it is a challenging course and the weather that day was cold, wet and windy so that slows everyone down. The layout was unique and fun and the conditions were 4 stars. I would say this falls short of "bucket list" golf, but definitely a great option.
Challenging Course -- Pace of play was SLOWWWWWW!
5 hour round -- Felt like at least 6.
That said, course layout was interesting and challenging -- I would give the course itself 4 stars but it gets 1 star because of slow play and the following:
I only saw a beverage cart once, 2nd hole on the front 9. -- It was probably 95 out there today I was super dehydrated by 12 or 13 despite drinking 2 bottles of water and a gatorade I got at the turn.
Slow group ahead -- Had to wait on almost every tee box on the back 9.
Disappointed with the condition of the fairway bunkers -- Caked hard pan with large pieces of gravel. After managing to pick my ball out of one, I decided to just lift, rake, and replace.
For the price, I expected more. Do better Troon Golf.
Mountain Golf Near the City
The Ridge at Castle Pines is a great course to take out of towners. Still close to the city, but offers a nice taste of mountain golf. The facility at The Ridge is very nice with a great staff, good restaurant, and a nice practice facility where range balls are included.
The Ridge is a great test and there is no lack of variety. From the first tee you get a nice taste of upcoming elevation changes throughout the round with a tee shot straight down the hill to a generous fairway. The rest of the course works its way up and down the hills of Castle Pines with very few holes being flat. Carts are a must on this course. (Included in green fees)
There are plenty of picturesque holes on The Ridge. The long par 3 7th over a ravine gives a nice view of the Denver area and the 5th hole from above. The 9th offers great views of the valley and foothills to the west. The tee shot on the 9th is a fun one with a blind landing area straight down the hill, hit it good and you will have a short pitch to the green below.
My favorite hole is the par 5 13th through the forest. A good tee shot will give you a shot at getting home in two, but you must keep it straight. Hit it left and you’ll be blocked out by trees, a creek runs down the right side of the fairway and can easily capture your ball. When the pin is set on the left side of the green your second shot can be totally blind, have fun!
If you are not playing the tips, make sure you step up to the back tee on hole 18. It is quite a spectacular view of 17 and the 18th fairway ahead of you, just be careful, it sits right on a cliff and there is not much room back there!
Conditions wise, The Ridge is usually in pretty good shape and the greens can get quite fast at times. It is one of the better tracks in the area. Prime pricing can get a little steep, but it is always worth playing if you can get a good deal!
Slow Pace of Play
We play this course 3-4 times a month and never on the weekend. It’s a very nice course and we would play more often but the pace of play is always 4.5 hrs or more per round during the week. It’s especially frustrating because we never see a ranger trying to keep golfers moving. We played today and had to wait for 5-10 minutes at most of the tee boxes to tee off. It was brutal as we played in the afternoon and temps were in the 80s. Let’s hope that the pace will improve as Fall approaches and the kids are back in school.
The Ridge Is A Great Place To Play
The people, pro shop, practice facility, course, restaurant/bar, and overall experience are the best. Course was in rough shape earlier this year. Looks absolutely spectacular now. What a great day!
The Ridge
Amazing course layout. Few holes were less than green, but all in all I would definitely play this corse again. Need to allow carts in the parking lot for pick up and drop off.
