Arrowhead Golf Club
About
The golf course at the Arrowhead Golf Club has been declared the top public course in Denver in the past by Golf Digest, as well as one of the top 75 public courses in the nation. The towering red sandstone rock formations are a trademark of the course, providing a unique and beautiful atmosphere, which is further enhanced by the abundant wildlife that have made the course their home. The rolling terrain provides elevation changes and undulation to the greens. Water hazards and bunkers also come into play on the course. Arrowhead Golf Club's signature hole is the par-3 13th hole. It is a steep, downhill hole with scenic views.

One Big Problem
One of the prettiest places you will ever play. I just can't believe they were allowed to put a golf course in these rock formations. It's a good test from the tips. Sadly, if you are a serious player the pace of play is SO SLOW it takes the wind out of your sails. Played a 3 hour front nine and asked if anyone was marshaling the course when we made the turn. We were told "yes" and the pro shop sent out a young man far too young to get any results from the offending foursome. There were four foursomes on #4 tee at one point. I just don't think anyone really cared about pace of play, or they didn't seem to on that day. I think they cater to the "resort or tourist" player and not the more serious one. So, be careful and plan on at least 5 1/2 to 6 hours for your round.
Snail's pace play and the staff does not care!
If you are like me, a serious golfer, then do not waste your money or your time playing at the Arrowhead Golf Course. Sure it has breathtaking views and some of the holes are challenging. However, the pace of play was extremely slow. I was part of threesome and it took us five and half hours to play seventeen holes. We were getting on the greens within regulation. We were finally frustrated and upset after teeing off on the eighteenth hole when the sun went down. We picked up our fairway drives due to the darkness. There were six golfers (if you want to call them that) in front of us going back and forth from one side of each fairway to the other. Not only did they not let us play through, the folks working at the golf course did not even seem to care when we brought it to their attention many times. Some folks are meant to play golf, some are meant to stay on a golf range, and some are only meant to play miniature golf. Those six inconsiderate folks are meant for the latter. My suggestion is go play at Bear Dance Golf Course, which is much more challenging, much more beautiful, and the staff there take golf serious!
Beautiful!
Absolutely gorgeous! Loved the course, loved the staff, and loved the value! You have to go out and try it. You will not be disappointed.
Fun but slow
For a “premium” course they sure didnt enforce pace of play. Pretty, but frustratingly slow.
Great course, too expensive
This course is beautiful. They don’t allow walkers. That’s not good if you are a walker. The course is worth about $70, not $120-$140 which is what you pay during peak season. The practice facility is very, very small. No chipping or sand area. The driving range is tiny, no drivers allowed. If you hit left at all on the driving range, your ball will be on the 10th hole. Very dangerous. They need to put tall nets up and make it safer for the 10th hole and allow drivers. The course has gorgeous holes, like the Par 3 in between the red rocks on the back nine. One of the prettiest holes in the state.
Beautiful course, early in the season, gorgeous day
This was my 4th and my wife's 1st round. I was happy to find a day to show her this beautiful course. The weather was just about perfect. The check-in had a minor delay with the new Golfpass interface, but the Golfnow tee time was seamless. The staff worked to get it figured out. The cart person was very friendly. The driving range is distance limited to 185y. They told us the greens haven't been mowed yet, since it has just recently melted out, so the speeds were a bit variable...and fairly fast on the downhillers. Texas wedge or hybrid putts may be the current shot choice for near miss approach shots with a downhill pin. The snows have largely melted, though some bunkers still hold snow making the sand variable for your exit sand saves. The course overall was in really nice shape.
The groundskeepers were out there getting things tuned up, but for us amateurs, working around greens puts them in a bit of jeopardy with tightened muscles and skull shots, especially on #4 where long is the safer play. Fore!
The course is cart path only right now, which seems appropriate, though it makes for a bit of extra time to get to your shots on the other side of the fairways. The GPS in the cart turned out handy to help reduce the number of clubs selected for those guesses on the far side.
FWIW, this is a pretty challenging course for intermediate, middle-aged ladies with its 136 slope rating (113 being average). E.g. from Columbine tees #4's 385y length with a forced carry to get to the green really earns its 1 hcp; #2's 508y length may be a stretch; #12's 387y left-curving layout will test shot control; and #18's lake curving out near the cartpath will foil a reasonably intentioned 2nd shot if your tee shot doesn't get you a view of the lake.
Still this course is always a treat! Though one might like the final tally better on the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th lap. Enjoy!
Nice early spring round.
The course was in very good shape considering it was under a blanket of snow a weak ago. A little slow due to cast path only. Overall a great day!
Nice!
Played this course many times and it never gets old. The most scenic course anywhere outside Pebble Beach. Well worth a GN fee of $99. I don’t think it’s worth the normal $150 plus fee.
Wowed from the moment we arrived
Absolutely beautiful! Staff was well above expectations! If you are looking to play within an hour of Denver, this is a MUST PLAY! Worth the extra $$$ from a regular course.
Glad We Played It
For late in year, course was in excellent condition. We were first group off in morning so pace of play was great. Finished in about 3 hours, 45 minutes. Course was challenging for a couple of seventy somethings. Parred first 2 holes, double bogied third and quit keeping score, just enjoyed the fantastic scenery and nice late November day. Wind and temp was up and down depending on where on the course. Some holes protected, others not at all.Very glad we played the course. Will try to play once or twice a year from now on. Got lots of great pictures!
Nice Fall Round
Pace of play was slow and didn't finish round but the was in great shape and its a beautiful course.
Must play course ! Very scenic!
A must play course. You won’t play a more scenic course. Probably not worth the normal fee of $159 but is worth a golf now price of $120. The course had just been over seeded so fairways were a little long but greens were very good.
Gorgeous setting
Beautiful golf course. Greens have some slope to them, but they rolled well and were a good speed. We had a slow group in front of us. The staff did attempt to speed them up and even asked them to skip a hole, but we were waiting on them again within 2 holes.
Pace of play
The course and layout are absolutely breathtaking. On the day that we played, the pace of play was horrendous. We were told by an employee, playing alone in front of us, that the course hosted a scramble earlier in the day. We chose a 4:03 tee time for the price and due to the recommendation of local residents. We played behind a foursome and two singles on the front nine. We spent 3-5 minutes waiting to hit shots. If it is going to play that slow, I would hope that you would be warned about the pace of play before you purchased golf. If we wouldn't have passed a foursome, golf etiquette says faster players play through. We would not have been able to finish 18 holes. Golf costs $129ish early and $89ish midday. Yes, it was $59ish for our tee time, but anyone with common sense would have advised us about the pace of play.
Amazing experience
If you're in Denver, play this course. Beautiful layout, picturesque everywhere you are. Some holes are challenging, some are scorable. Elevation changes, water, wind on a couple of holes. Signature 13th, par 3, elevated, measured 165-170 yards, 135yards with slope. Choose clubs wisely!! Only real issue were the greens. Even with lag putting, ball kept rolling 3, 4 feet past hole. Many hidden undulations. Club attendants are second to none here. Played in about 4 hours. If you can stand the summer sun, afternoon round is more than worth the price.
Unplayable greens
Look I’m not one to complain about speed of greens but something is up with greens that 3 7-10 handicappers almost 3 putted every green. Very inconsistent and made harder by ruff around the greens that where way to high and lush. The course is beautiful as can be and the layout was Awsome
