FEB. 8, 2001 - Jennifer Cully of St. Petersburg, Fla., fired a closing-round 1-under-par 71 to win the second annual Reebok Golf PGA Women's Stroke Play Championship, Feb. 1, at PGA Country Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Cully finished at even-par 216 for 54 holes on the 5,910-yard course, a stroke ahead of second-round leader Suzy Whaley of Farmington, Conn., and Debby Murphy of Webster, N.Y. Whaley and Murphy, who were the first round co-leaders, closed with 74 and 72, respectively. The event attracted a field of 44 PGA Professionals.
"It was a great group," said Cully, 32, a teaching professional at the Golf & Sea Club in Apollo Beach, Fla. "We were all grinding all day. None of us had a bogey until the 15th hole and then all three of us bogeyed the hole.

This was Cully's second victory as a PGA Professional. Her first was the 1995 Michigan Women's Open when she was working at Wabeek Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. Cully, who graduated from Illinois State University in 1991, has qualified to play on the Futures Tour this year.
Cully sank birdie putts of seven and 12 feet at the first and 12th holes and bogeyed the par-4 15th when she lipped out her par putt after missing the green on her second shot.
Cully and Whaley were even at the 18th tee but Whaley, an assistant professional at Tumble Brook Golf Club in Bloomfield, Conn., could not save par after hitting her third shot into the back bunker.
Murphy, head professional and co-owner of Webster Golf Club with her husband, Tom, opened with 12 consecutive pars, birdied the 13th, bogeyed 15 and 17, and birdied 18.
Cully earned $1,500 for the victory. Whaley and Murphy each took home $1,200 from the $11,200 purse.
Defending Champion Sarah Johnson of Denver, Colo., tied for ninth at 229. Click here for complete results.
