Riddle Wins 1999 FDC Colorado Open

AURORA -- Bill Riddle trailed second- and third-round leader Scott Mendelsohn by one stroke going into the 72nd hole at the FDC Colorado Open at Saddle Rock Golf Course on Sunday.

For Mendelsohn it was one hole too many. The crowd favorite from nearby Parker mis-clubbed his approach and couldn’t get down for par. The two headed for sudden death where Riddle hit a four iron to within six feet and birdied the first extra hole for the victory.

Both golfers finished regulation play at six-under-par 282, which was one shot better than Littleton’s Brian Guetz and Gary Blevins of New Mexico. It was the first Colorado Open forced to sudden death since Bill Loeffler beat Steve Schneiter at the Hiwan Golf Club in 1991.

Riddle, the 32-year-old Fort Collins native, who played collegiate golf at Colorado, won $31,500. Mendelsohn took home $18,900.
