BOULDER, Colo. -- Located in the outdoors-happy city of Boulder is the classic Flatirons Golf Course.
Originally built in the 1930s and opened as Boulder Country Club, the city took over operations in the 1960s and renamed it Flatirons after the mountains that tower over the city's southwestern side.
Set on a 130-acre parcel of land near the heart of town, the par-70 course is traditionally designed with tree-lined gentle doglegs, small creeks and ponds. The parks and recreation department added more bunkers, rebuilt others and is in the process of building new tee boxes, including a forward set that will play closer to 4,700 yards. The parks department also plans on adding an eco-friendly irrigation system in 2014. Organic fertilizers and pesticides are also used on the property.
Facilities at Flatirons Golf Course include a grill and bar, plus a full-length driving range and multiple practice greens.
