    At more than 9,000 feet, the Summit Course at Cordillera just west of Vail is one of the highest and most picturesque golf courses in Colorado. The views are incredible, but the design manages to keep up. Nearly all the holes are memorable with elevated tees and greens perched on the horizon with views that span a hundred miles or more.

The classic course, dating to 1931, is short by modern standard and can be a bit noisy, surrounded by train tracks and a major road. But a potential career round at an affordable price makes it worth a trip to Park Hill.

    No golf course in America has a setting quite like Arrowhead Golf Club, located just south of Denver in Littleton's Roxborough State Park. Opened in 1972 and designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., Arrowhead plays among 300-million-year-old sandstone formations. While short by modern day standards, the course presents a good test of golf with many large bunkers and challenging, fast greens.

    Flatirons Golf Course is located in the outdoors-happy city of Boulder, Colo. Originally built in the 1930s, the course sites on 130 acres near the heart of town. It's a traditional design with tree-lined gentle doglegs, small creeks and ponds. Boulder's parks and recreation department has added bunkers, rebuilt others and is in the process of building new tee boxes, including a forward set that will play close to 4,700 yards.

  • Enjoy the splendor of the Rockies at the Raven Golf Club at Three Peaks in Silverthorne, Colorado

    Located in Summit County, Raven Golf Club at Three Peaks delivers a lofty 9,000-foot-high experience about 90 minutes from Denver, near the Keystone and Breckenridge mountain resorts. The course can play up to 7,413 yards from the championship tees, though the altitude and a handful of downhill holes make it play a little shorter. It winds up and down mountain terrain and features some tremendous changes in elevation, highlighted by the ninth hole, which heads 300 feet downhill from tee to green. Nature is abundant, including an eagle's nest on the third hole.
