Family Friendly
My wife and I have come to enjoy the redesign as a family friendly outing. My 20 month old loves being around the course. Course is the greenest place in Hobbs and Lea county. My son has been with me on the par 3 several times without problems or complaints. Meals at the club house are satisfying. A little slow so don't be in a hurry. Staff has been exemplary and friendly every time. I just hope my game gets as good as our new facility.
Beautiful
My husband and I are both fairly new to golf. Our public golf course at home is rough to say the least. We played a nice course in Clovis a few weeks back and my husband has been to several in Texas with his brother. We were so impressed with how beautiful Rockwind is, from the moment you pull into the parking lot to the time you leave. I am sad to see several of the golfers ahead of us didn't have proper etiquette (picking up your broken tees, replacing divots, etc.). The only thing I would ask is perhaps they have a "course etiquette enforcer" to drive around and make sure people are complying with course rules. Other than that, I was very challenged since I'm new but it wasn't so difficult that I didn't want to play.
Staff lacks customer service
I am terribly sorry that we interrupted the staff's day by having to wait on us for our team time. Seemed bothered that they had to come check us in. Course was great but customer service seems to be a lost art in this area of the country.
Excellent course / Beautiful greens
The course offered a great challenge while also offering beautiful scenery. The fairways are very plush which provides the opportunity to play on grass as opposed to dirt as so many courses offer in this area. Will definitely be coming back for more.
Fantastic Course
Great staff, great facilities, and the course is in great condition. I drive 120 miles to play this course and all 5 times has been a wonderful experience. If I could move to Hobbs this would be my course. Can't say enough good things about this place. The greens are perfect and so are the fairways. Bad shots will definitely penalize you. A handicap on this course will travel well. If you want to sharpen your short game then they also have a beautiful 9-hole par 3 course.
A True Beauty
You'll have to drive 100+ miles to find a course to start comparing to this one. It is very challenging to good players, yet offers tee boxes for beginners and mid/higher handicappers that will allow them to score and enjoy the beauty of this gem in the desert. The staff is great, and food in the clubhouse is even better.
The only negative is on busy days you have to wait sometimes up to 15 minutes for drinks at the clubhouse because there is only 1 place to get them, and they appear to be understaffed for these busy times of the day. This slowed down play, as most people stopped here at the turn.
Spanking New and Terrific!
The care that has been put into the redesign of this course is nothing short of outstanding.
It's fun to play, and because it was a Saturday, we rode rather then walked. However, the design of the course would make it a great course to walk and get exercise without feeling exhausted at the end.
The women's/forward tees were very friendly. Just love it when I can reach the green in 3 on a par 5 . Thank you for thinking of women/juniors and seniors to make this course a family affair.
Everyone took pride in their work, from Matt the superintendent, Doug head of Park and Rec, to Linda and Camren the course pros. You can learn and have fun with golf here.
Loved it and had a great time.
Almost makes you want to move to Hobbs, NM
"Hard to believe you're in Hobbs." That's what people say when they step out onto the new Rockwind Community Golf Links, which opened in the spring of 2015. On what used to be the municipal Ocotillo Park Golf Course now sits a jewel of which the whole community can be proud. This parkland layout with its bluegrass fairways and rough and bentgrass greens is a real joy to play and a real bargain for both locals and visitors alike ($15/$30 to walk). Just as impressive is the new clubhouse, dining, golf shop and incredible practice facilities which include a nine hole par 3 course that's almost as much to play as the championship course.
