Fun Course
The conditions were better than I was expecting for the price. Staff was great and played the first nine by myself and paired up at the turn. Driving range, practice green, and 18, all I need. The layout is challenging but fair, and don’t forget to count on the western NM wind. This is a fun, little oasis in the desert. Will definitely book again.
Golf
Not a bad corse. For the money it's good. Wide open greens. Greens may be a strech but still a good corse.
The views from this course are picturesque
The course is set up near the base of a mesa with views that look out over the Malpais National Monument. It is these wide open views that make the challenging course even more fun to play. I always enjoy coming back.
Cow pasture
Cow Pasture golf. It has rained for a month so where there IS grass it has grown profusely. A few holes could have some interesting design if they bothered to lay out the hole so you knew where to go - otherwise you just hit it out into the pasture. Partly I just don’t get it — best course in the country is just 2 hours away ( Piñon Hills, Farmington - names best municipal course several times ) - seems like they could do better here. Glad I got the Hot Deal special, otherwise I’d recommend just drive on by !! Pro shop staff not much better — was asked to Prove I had a tee time since GolfNow did not ‘work’ with their system, then they argued about the Hot Deal price I got !?! Play at your own risk !! 😵💫
Great Staff
As others have noted, the staff members at this course are great - friendly and helpful. I also had the best hamburger I've ever had at a public golf course. The course itself was very mixed. Many of the fairways were very clumpy, so your drive doesn't roll very far. Many of the greens had grass that was 8 inches deep just off the green. I've never lost balls that close to a green before. The layout was fine, but the course could really use some care.
First Time
Very friendly staff, course has bear spots probably due to having not enough water for maintaining course. Spring conditions are normal for this time of the year. Hopefully it gets better by summer. Will come back to play in the summer for an updated review.
Really poor conditions
Seems like this course might have been pretty decent once upon a time. Now most of the ponds are dry and the fairways aren’t being watered evenly. Sandy greens and it doesn’t look like it’s been aerated, just sandy. Fees were very low so I can’t complain too much but this course could be a lot better. Main defense is length, as there’s no trees and ponds are dry.
Can't believe it doesn't get much play
What a great course and very reasonable rate. The course has many bunkers and some narrow fairways but the greens are in good shape even after just being aerated, still ran true and fast, very subtle undulations. The length is a plus, Championship course.
Sorta disappointing
We had played here 10 yrs ago and it was awesome.
We were near by and decided to get a tee time. They didn’t have a record of our tee time said they did not have a computer.
After we started playing the course was very wet and found out it was water with that comes from sewer water and they had signs not to drink water. The course was too wet and it was stinky in many areas. The ball would plug and pick up mud.
After realizing where the water came from it seemed very unsanitary, sorta ruined what could have been a nice day of golf. The course was patchy with clumps if grass in the rough and the greens were still bumpy from a recent aeration.
Pace of play was slow on and off as we had a 5 some infront
On front 9 and they finally let us play thru back play was a bit better.
