Ridge Golf Course at Pole Creek Golf Club
About
Pole Creek Golf Club is a public 27-hole golf facility in Tabernash, the only one of its kind in Grand County. The holes are divided into three par-36, nine-hole courses, which can be played in different 18-hole combinations. You'll get a different set of challenges on each course but they each provide a classic round of Colorado mountain golf. On no other nine is this more apparent than the dramatic Ridge Course. As its name would imply, the layout features several dramatic ups and downs. Accuracy is key and having a good strategy is equally important. Golfers will also have to contend with tree-lined fairways and strategically placed bunkers along the greens, not to mention the occasional water hazard. The other two nines, the Meadow and the Ranch, are more mellow and approachable.

No words
This is my favorite mountain course! Words can’t describe how special it is to me. As soon as I finish a round here I am working on a plan to return again! Love Pole Creek!
Better than expected conditions
We stumbled upon this Golfnow offering. It was their first week since opening. The fairways were in great condition. The rough wasn't penal. The scenery was not obviously affected by the fire. The greens escaped winter kill nicely, though the aeration effect was still evident, and the green speed was on the slower side. It was a fine day out. Thanks! The season looks to be a great one.
A couple notes: the hot deal time apparently locks you into whatever 9s they assign you, in our case the original 9s. Looking at the course tee sheet could tell you which to expect.
There were no cart path restrictions.
Hole #6 tee shot on Ranch plays 10-15y shorter than Garmin GPS indicates.
The restaurant is open with no mask requirements.
Beautiful Setting - Disappointing experience
We arrived early and warmed up. No one told us that the greens were freshly aerated. The greens were horrible, but the course was in decent shape. We got to the first tee and the group ahead of us had 4 carts. The starter told us that only 3 were playing, but there ended up being 5 with 2 young children. They moved fairly well for how many were in the group. We got to the 4th hole and things got slow and stayed that way. We waited several minutes on the 9th tee talking to the group behind us. Once we were able to tee off we hit some errand drives, but played the hole fairly quickly. The ranger showed up and told my wife that we were holding up 4 groups. If he had been doing his job we would not have tightened up waited so long on the previous 4 holes. The pro shop staff was not very friendly, but the cart person and pro were pleasant. I really like this course, so was disappointed that my kids were introduced to it in this way.
Worth the trip for me
It's almost two hours EACH WAY for me but it's a very interesting drive - up into the Rockies.
The greens remind me of Poppy Hills in Monterey. If you can see the line and hit it, your putt has a good chance of falling. No gimmicks or tricky breaks.
Fairways are nice and wide. Rough is not punitive but narrow - after that yer in the woods. It's not that tough but a couple of holes on each side can get you if you are not careful.
All the employees are always helpful and friendly. I have played over 200 different courses (I keep a running list) and I would recommend this course to anyone.
Everything was mint!
Great course, great staff, just great! We’ll be back!
Beautiful, tough mountain course
What a treat for golfers. 3 different 9-hole courses: Meadow, Ridge, and Ranch.
We played Ridge and Ranch. The Ridge course offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, lots of elevation changes across the holes. Ranch was more open with equally spectacular views. At one point on the Ranch course, we were treated to the sound of nearby coyotes calling to each other across the valley. Very cool.
We hit the right time for fall colors as well.
The course was in great shape (Sept, 2020). Greens were beautiful, but fast. Lots of contour to play with.
Very accessible to visitors - not too expensive. Free range balls with green fees. Very friendly staff.
The restaurant itself offers beautiful views. Food, I would say, is average, maybe even less so for dinner. Staff is very friendly.
If you are a golfer, do yourself a favor and play Pole Creek.
Great Course but the value is not unlimited
Love Pole Creek and it is a fun course with a ton of variety to it. It was a nice day and even with the fires nearby, we could not sense the smoke but, there was a bit of a haze to things. We got a great deal on Labor Day so, even better but I would cap out the value for 18 here at about 60-70 max and after that, it becomes too much, even for a good Mt course.
Not worth the price
I had high hopes for Pole Creek and it didn’t meet them. The course has amazing views and some interesting holes, but it was not a good value. I understand you pay more in the mountains, but for $109 (Saturday morning) the course should’ve been in better shape. The greens, in particular, were shaggy and slow. There was no water on the course or pencils in the cart (maybe COVID-related).
Overall, I felt it should’ve been nicer and more intriguing for the price. Keystone Ranch is a similar price and offers a much better experience in my opinion.
We always enjoy playing here. The greens are slow and a bit spongy, but there is grass and they are fine. Other courses in Grand county have much worse greens.....except for Grand lake and that course has best greens. Pole Creek is a great experience. Go for it.
Stunning golf course. Better than advertised.
We played the ranch and ridge courses. Very beautiful, very well maintained and very challenging. Much better golf experience, for example, than Torrey Pines.
Not quite there yet
Anybody looking for recent reviews to see what shape the course is in, here you go. Give it 3-4 weeks and it’ll be perfect. Cool track, great views. We played in a downpour and tons of wind and still had fun.
High altitude golf
This is a great visual experience and very good condition condition course, the greens were excellent, oh yes bring an extra ball or 2.
