GOLF REVIEWColorado Golf Association 2000 AwardsMANITOU SPRINGS, CO (Mar. 20, 2001)- The CGA presented the Player of the Year, Senior Player of the Year, Jim Topliff Award, and Golf Writer/Publicist of the Year awards for 2000 at this year's CGA Annual Meeting held at Columbine Country Club. 2000 CGA Player of the Year - Call won the CGA State Amateur Stroke Play Championship for the second time in three years. He was also the low amateur in the Colorado Open, tied for 14th overall among the best amateurs and professionals in the region. On the National Scene he qualified for the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, and advanced to Match Play. In addition he was 7th in the Pacific Coast Amateur, held at the Olympic Club in San Francisco. 2000 CGA Senior Player of the Year - Olive was a quarter finalist for CGA State Senior Match Play Championship and the CGA State Amateur Match Play Championship. He also placed 8th in the CGA Stroke Play Championship, and was 2nd in the CGA Senior Four-Ball Championship. Olive also qualified for the U.S. Senior Open at Saucon Valley Country Club, and was one of three amateurs that made the cut.
Burnett is one of Colorado's most knowledgeable Rules Officials. Burnett lives in the Carbondale area, and for years has volunteered his services as a Rules Official for the CGA. Burnett has officiated numerous state amateur championships and state High School championships. 2000 CGA Golf Writer/Publicist of the Year - Tom Kensler has been with the Denver Post since 1989, but 2000 was his first full year as the lead golf writer. Kensler wrote numerous articles that covered many facets of Colorado golf scene, and started a new weekly section that featured a CGA, CWGA, Junior and Colorado PGA player of the week. Kensler also helped improve the Post's coverage of local golf events. The CGA also honored Leo Bradley, owner of Bear Creek Golf Club, for his contributions to the game of golf. Over the last 15 seasons, Bear Creek Golf Club has hosted over 30 events in support of amateur golf in Colorado including six CGA State Amateur Match Play Championships and five CGA State Boys' Match Play Championships. In 2001, Bear Creek Golf Club will host both the 100th CGA State Amateur Match Play and the 50th CGA State Boys' Match Play championships. |
