Sun Microsystems John Elway Celebrity Classic

BROOMFIELD, CO (JUNE 11, 2001) - Future Hall of Fame hockey player, Mario Lemieux and former Detroit Lions running back, Barry Sanders join the ranks of distinguished athletes and entertainers competing in this year's 2nd Annual Sun Microsystems John Elway Celebrity Classic to be held at the Omni Interlocken Resort and Golf Club on Saturday, June 30th and Sunday, July 1st, 2001.

In addition to Lemieux and Sanders, this year's line-up is expected to include Michael Jordan, Johnny Bench, Gary Carter, Dan Marino, Emmitt Smith, Judd Nelson, Mike Shanahan, Brian Griese, Jim McMahon, Ivan Lendl, Joe Theismann, Mike Schmidt and many more. Saturday and Sunday's celebrity stroke-play competition is the highlight of the Sun Microsystems John Elway Celebrity Classic, which is the 8th stop on the 2001 Celebrity Players Tour.

Celebrities will compete for a $250,000.00 purse. Last year, former major league pitcher, Shane Rawley, won the tournament, which raised more than $700,000 for charity.

Galleries are open to the public on Saturday, June 30th and Sunday, July 1st from 8am to 4pm. Tickets for the two-day event are on sale at all King Soopers stores for $10.00. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Elway Foundation and other Colorado charities.

The Omni Interlocken Golf Club is one of Colorado's most premiere golf courses! Having opened in September 1999, it was voted one of the top three best resort courses in Colorado.
