GOLF REVIEWSBC Futures Tour to Make Stop in ColoradoLITTLETON, Colo. (APRIL 12, 2001) - The First Data Colorado Open Events will bring a new women's professional golf tournament under its umbrella this May when the SBC FUTURES Tour makes a stop in Colorado. The SBC FUTURES Tour is the official developmental tour of the Ladies Professional Golf Association and features 20 tournaments in 15 states with purses totaling more than $1.1 million. The inaugural Colorado Women's FUTURES Classic will be played May 3-6 at Legacy Ridge Golf Course in Westminster with an initial purse of at least $60,000, according to First Data Colorado Open Events Executive Director David Edmiston. "The SBC FUTURES Golf Tour is looking forward to coming to the Denver area with its rich professional sports tradition. We are excited to add our event, which features the LPGA stars or tomorrow, to the already impressive First Data Colorado Open Events lineup," says Al Snow, Tournament Development Coordinator for the FUTURES Tour. He adds, "When looking for new cities to host SBC FUTURES Golf Tour events, we seek out communities that will support the event through widespread community participation. We look for the Colorado Women's FUTURES Classic to become a long-term community event that will raise public awareness as well as, make a significant charitable contribution to the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation Breast Cancer Treatment Fund." The tournament will include a pro-am event on May 3, followed by a 54-hole championship on May 4-6. The field will be cut to the low 70 and ties after 36 holes. A qualifier for local players will be held at Legacy Ridge the week before the tournament.
The SBC FUTURES Tour showcases more than 300 players from the United States and 27 other countries. Janice Littlefield, winner of the 2000 Colorado Women's Open, currently is a participant on the SBC FUTURES Tour along with several other Colorado Women's Open players. The First Data Colorado Open Events also conducts the First Data Colorado Open, the Colorado Women's Open, and the Colorado Senior Open.
